Featuring Tom Mason and Eric Ford
“A band leader of pugnacious flair and genuine unpredictability.” James Griffiths-The Guardian
ReWired is the new acoustic trio project from acclaimed composer, arranger and pianist, Janette Mason.
Janette Mason has a storied career playing for multiple artists across the worlds of jazz and pop. As a session player she’s toured with some of the biggest pop names in the business, and as a bandleader she’s released a series of acclaimed jazz albums featuring some of the UK’s most respected players.
For her latest release, ReWired, she’s selected a basket full of all the tunes that mean the most to her, from timeless standards to modern chart classics, and reworked each of them with her long-time collaborators Tom Mason on bass and Eric Ford on drums. With Janette at the helm, the original tunes’ irresistible melodic personalities are daringly expanded and reconfigured by the trio so that they delight the listener anew with the depth and sophistication of jazz while retaining the direct appeal of pop.
No-one is off limits and the repertoire draws from everyone from Gary Numan and David Bowie to Kate Bush and Olivia Rodrigo, with Janette’s fierce and inventive arrangements pulling everything together. Mixing deep grooves, gutsy swing, blazing solos and unforgettable melody, this is timeless music re-wired for the present day.
Janette Mason – Piano
Janette Mason is a jazz pianist, a composer for film and TV, an arranger and producer of all genres from jazz to soul to pop, and a dedicated and heartfelt musical communicator. Over the course of a thirty-year career she has quietly but emphatically made her presence felt, delighting audiences with her skills in all kinds of settings, from tiny jazz clubs to international film and TV projects. To those in the know she’s become a byword for artistic quality and emotional authenticity: her music embraces the complexity and challenge of modern jazz but always reaches out to the listener with its honesty and directness of expression, and as a result she’s established a reputation that’s as revered by critics and her fellow musicians as it is by the listening public.
Whether leading her own trio in jazz reworkings of pop classics, playing sessions with Oasis, Pulp, or Seal, working with legendary producer Tony Visconti, scoring for film and TV, or launching her latest project AYRA in collaboration with vocal legend Juliet Roberts, Janette always stays true to her core values – a commitment to musical excellence combined with a generous, giving sensibility that reaches out to audiences and ensures that the message in the music is always there to be heard.
Tom Mason – Bass
Tom gained a jazz degree while at the Royal Academy of Music, and at New England Conservatory in Boston. Since then, he has earned a reputation as one of the most versatile double bassists and bass guitarists on the UK music scene.
